SUMMARY:NPP 2025: Zhana Penkova Pencheva / I Love When You’re Watching Me
DESCRIPTION:It is transparent and fluid\, allowing you to be seen and felt.
\n\nDear Lovers\, you know\n\nappearing and disappearing is like coming an
d going\, like being here and there\, like ghosting yourself\, like the ho
les in your body\, like winding and waving\, like dancing the past\, prese
nt\, and future\, like you and me.\nSo\, melting between these fantasies\,
I will dance for you.\nI invite you to see me\, imagine me\, sense me\, w
atch me\, eroticize me\, criticize me\, love me\, or hate me. Just be with
me\, and when it’s all over\, leave me. \n\nAgain and again. Like repet
ition. Like creating experience. Like a romance. Like water spilling from
a mouth\, like sweat dropping from a body\, like liquids pouring out of th
e vagina. Like the pain of yesterday\, already forgotten.\n\nAgain and aga
in\, I will appear and disappear\, over and over again\, just because of y
ou. Like you. Like dancing the dance\, like dancing it again and again\, a
rchiving dances in the body—as if having an affair with all the dances o
ne has danced before.\n\nBefore disappearing\, I will write you one last l
ove letter and print it on your heart\, window\, and palm—so you never f
 orget me \n\nI dance for all of you\,\n\nAnd as you’re watching me\, I w
ill strip away every layer\, standing bare before your gaze until darkness
covers my skin\, erasing my presence\, and I dissolve into sea foam.\n\nA
 lways yours\,\n\nZhana\n\n……………\n\nIn I Love When You’re Watch
 ing Me\, I dance solo in intimate connection with silence\, music\, dance\
, myself\, and the audience\, born out of a desire to open spaces of playf
ul intimacy\, where you can dwell and dissolve in ephemerality. I can easi
ly appear and disappear\, while at the same time always being here.\n\nIn
I Love When You’re Watching Me\, I celebrate being seen and felt in raw
vulnerability. It invites failure and builds connections through sensual a
nd delicate interactions.\n\nIn front of your gaze\, with each breath\, mo
vement\, and sound\, I change and transition into something else. I become
more visible\, and sometimes I disappear invisibly.\n\nBefore disappearin
g with this dance\, I allow myself to take up space\, express myself freel
y\, and create through movement. Shifting through personal experiences and
dance archives\, I leave and erase traces\, touch senses\, and invite you
  into the unknown.\n\n\n\nDance: Zhana Pencheva\nMusic: Tsvetan Momchilov\
nLight Design &amp\; Costumes: Ralitsa Toneva\nPhoto &amp\; Video Document
ation: Natalya Sidorenko\nPhoto Landscape Event: Nikola Kaloyanov\n\nThis
process was accompanied by dramaturgical\, dance\, and conceptual advice f
rom Hana\nErdman\, Ofelia Jarl Ortega\, Dario Barreto Damas\, and Aleksand
ar Georgiev.\n\nThe texts accompanying the dance work were developed durin
g Laressa Dickey’s writing course and were influenced by Laressa Dickey\
, Malina Suliman\, Rakel Laupsa\, and Sanna Atldax.\n\nThis performance is
part of my ongoing project Bodies in Pleasure\, Bodies That Care\, Dancin
g Bodies\, initiated in the frame of my study. It explores sensuality\, pe
rformative identities that the dancer carries within\, and the erotic pres
ence of the dancing body. The work examines relational dynamics with the e
 nvironment\, music\, gazes\, bodies\, emotions\, feelings\, and the uncert
ainty of the unknown.\n\nThe project is supported by the Mobility Program
of the Sofia Culture Program\, Bulgaria.\n\nMore info in the printed progr
am.\n\n\n\nZHANA PENKOVA PENCHEVA\n\nI am a freelance dancer working betwe
 en Burgas\, Sofia\, Stockholm\, and other international contexts. I hold B
A and MA degrees in dance and choreography from New Bulgarian University a
nd am currently graduating from the New Performance Practices MA program a
t Stockholm University of the Arts.\n\nI create dance works that often exp
lore themes of sensuality\, eroticism\, love\, and the kinetic and relatio
nal spaces inhabited by the body. My choreographic projects are developed
in close collaboration with music\, sound\, and light. Some of my works in
clude the choreographic concerts Six Love Songs (2019)\, Dance baby\, danc
e (2021)\, and Before disappearing (2024)\, as well as other pieces such a
s Glass of love and Garden.\n\nIn 2018\, together with Aleksandar Georgiev
and Dario Barreto Damas\, I co-founded the international artistic team ST
EAM ROOM\, working with collective authorship practices. We have presented
works across numerous European cities. Since 2020\, we have been developi
 ng a long-term initiative — Imaginative Choreographic Center (ICC) — w
hich explores collective processes within the framework of an imaginative
institution\, fostering shared responsibility and critical engagement in d
ance and choreography.\n\nIn recent years\, I have performed in both Bulga
rian and international productions\, including The Body as Reference for R
evolution (United Cowboys)\, In C (Sasha Waltz &amp\; Guests)\, The Power
of S (Aleksandar Georgiev)\, Hommage à Merce Cunningham (Paula Rosolen)\,
  Impossible Actions (2021\, Yasen Vasilev)\, among others.\n\n\n\nNPP 2025
\nDuring two weeks in May\, students at the Master's Programme New Perform
ative Practices (NPP) invite you to take part of thirteen presentations of
artistic practice. You are welcome to participate\, witness\, watch\, lis
ten\, share\, and sometimes intimately engage with these artists’ curios
ities and performative explorations in venues throughout Stockholm 6–18
May 2025.\n\nIn the presentation each of the thirteen artists proposes a s
pecific way of inhabiting and unveiling the artistic practice with which t
hey are currently engaged. In these encounters\, audiences can expect a wi
de range of approaches to sharing their practice through formats spanning
from staged to non staged performances\, performance installations\, parti
cipatory performances\, publishing or other objects and situations as site
s for performative investigations.\n\nStudents on the MA program New Perfo
rmative Practices are experienced practitioners from different fields. In
their education at SKH Dance\, these performing artists are given the cont
ext and support to delve into their own histories\, refine and develop the
ir research methods and shape sustainable approaches to support ongoing pr
actices in their chosen field of art. The program is research preparatory\
, qualifying the student for a Master's degree in Choreography with a focu
s on performative practices.\n\nWeld is one of this year's hosts and here
you will meet Anna Biczok\, Zhana Pencheva\, Anna Apergi\, Vincent Jonsson
  and Martin Sieweke.\n\nSee full program at uniarts.se\n\n&nbsp\;
