Anna Nowickas verk utforskar det imaginära som koreografi och förhållandet mellan drömmande och dansande kroppar. Hon utvecklar en ny poetisk berättelse som skickligt växlar mellan inre tillstånd, karaktärer, flimrande gester, formella danser och stämningsfulla landskap. Precis som i en dröm växer alla dessa sätt att vara fram ur en kroppslig upplevelse och upplöses i möjligheternas rum.

Titeln Uvula kommer från det latinska ordet för ett köttigt utskott som hänger från gommens baksida i munnen. Här symboliserar det en fysisk inbjudan att skapa liv.

Verket är ett beställningsverk från det polska nationalgalleriet Zachęta i Warszawa, som ett svar på Piotr Uklańskis skulptur Untitled (Wide Open). I Uvula ställer Anna Nowicka frågan hur man kan gå vidare i tider av förtvivlan och vänder sig till drömmarna som ett botemedel mot en hopplös framtid.

Anna Nowicka’s work explores the choreography of the imaginary and the relationship between dreaming and dancing bodies. She develops a new poetic narrative that skilfully alternates between inner states, characters, flickering gestures, formal dances and atmospheric landscapes. As in a dream, all these forms of being emerge from an embodied experience and dissolve into the space of possibility.

The title Uvula comes from the Latin word for a fleshy appendage that hangs from the back of the palate in your mouth. Here, it represents a physical invitation to create life.

This work was commissioned by the Polish National Gallery Zachęta in Warsaw as a response to Piotr Uklański’s sculpture Untitled (Wide Open). In Uvula, Anna Nowicka asks how one can go on in times of despair and turns to dreams as a remedy against a hopeless future.
